America Should Join Democrats In Boycotting Trump's Inauguration
A growing number of Democrats are planning on boycotting Trump's inauguration, and much of the rest of the country should join them.

The Trump Inauguration Boycott Is On
For those who were worried that congressional Democrats would roll over and play dead for the next two years until the midterm election, we have an encouraging sign. Dozens of House Democrats are planning to boycott Trump’s inauguration and not attend the ceremony.
Axios reported recently:
More than a dozen congressional Democrats plan to sit out President-elect Trump's inauguration, and many more are anxiously grappling with whether to attend, Axios has learned.
Not every Democrat skipping the ceremony will do so to protest Trump — but a formal boycott is materializing as a first act of resistance against the incoming president.
For many Democrats, the scars of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol remain fresh in the mind, marking Trump as a threat to democracy.
"For somebody who he said he's going to lock me up, I don't see the excitement in going to see his inauguration," former Jan. 6 committee chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told Axios.
Some Democrats don’t attend inaugural events, no matter who is being sworn in, and if we are to be honest, the entire ceremony is meaningless. The president-elect takes power at noon on January 20 as a constitutional matter. The swearing-in and the speech have no bearing on whether or not a president-elect takes power. The president-elect could skip the whole show, and it would not change anything.
Does anyone remember Joe Biden’s inaugural address? What about Barack Obama’s? How about Trump’s first one? Except for a few memorable snippets that make the historical highlight reels, what happens at the ceremony is forgotten almost as soon as it happens.
The boycott is a different story because it will set the tone for at least the next two years.
The American People Should Join The Boycott
If you are still upset at the mainstream press for helping to put Trump in the White House, January 20th is your day to make your voice heard. Instead of listening to Rachel Maddow and the MSNBC anchor crew tell you how historic the day is and drone on for hours like the return of Trump is normal, turn off the TV until 12:01 PM because that is when the important action will start.
