Jack Smith Gets An Important Win For Witness Protection
Judge Aileen Cannon appeared ready to not redact and seal key witness information that would have been handed over to defendant Donald Trump.
Smith, in a filing, made it clear that he was prepared to go to the 11th Circuit and appeal if Cannon ruled for Trump, and that appeal could have gotten Judge Cannon removed from the case.
In what appears to be a reversal from where she was leaning, Cannon ruled:
a. Search warrant application for Defendant De Oliveira’s Gmail account
First, the Special Counsel opposes the disclosure of a search warrant application for Defendant De Oliveira’s Gmail account [ECF No. 316 p. 3]. This includes the search warrant itself, the accompanying affidavit, and any attachments thereto [ECF No. 312 p. 2]. Consistent with the holdings above, the Court directs Defendants to redact from these materials witness identities, P.I.I., and any Jencks material that could directly identify potential witnesses as previously described in this Order.
