After Getting Trump Elected, Media Demands Democrats Protect Press Freedom

The mainstream media did everything that they could to send Trump back to the White House, but now they want Democrats to protect press freedom before he arrives.

Press freedom in the United States has been on the decline for decades. The erosion of press freedom accelerated after 9/11. Press freedom has been harmed by everything from a lack of laws protecting journalists to Donald Trump’s open threats and intimidation of the press.

Earlier in 2024, Reporters Without Borders summed up the situation:

The United States is ranked 55th on the 2024 edition of RSF’s World Press Freedom Index, a historic fall of 10 places from the year before. The erosion of American press freedom is due, in part, to declining trust in the media, threats and violence against journalists, and stalled legal reforms. RSF also recently highlighted some of the more localized problems surrounding press freedom in a recently published report, which found severe shortcomings in the economic, political, and safety situation for journalists in key swing states which could affect the election.

Press freedom is a serious issue, which is why the corporate media's behavior during the 2024 election year was so disappointing. At the direction of their billionaire and corporate owners, the media normalized and equalized convicted felon Donald Trump with Democratic rivals. However, they also withheld endorsements from the Democrats and sent an implicit message of support for Trump.

With Trump set to come back into power, the same media that helped put him there is now asking Democrats to protect them.
