According to data from the National Taxpayers Union, no state’s residents have been hit harder by Trump’s tariffs and trade war than Michigan's.
WLNS reported, “Importers of goods bound for Michigan paid an estimated $23 billion in tariffs imposed by executive action over that period, the third-largest total among the 52 states and territories tracked by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation. The total per-person estimate for Michigan households is more than $5,600, the most of any state.”

The latest bad news is that Michigan’s manufacturing industry is set to be hammered by Canada’s retaliatory tariffs, imposed in response to Trump starting a trade war with Canada for no reason at all.
The Michigan Manufacturing Association found that Canada’s retaliatory tariffs could hit $1.5 billion of Michigan’s exports.
When there is a dirty job to be done, Trump always sends Vice President JD Vance to take the hit. Vance is in Michigan to defend the administration’s trade war with Canada and put a sunny face on the economic destruction that Trump is causing in the state.
