You know, there’s so much great content on Substack, but most of it these days is subscriber-based. I understand that; it’s necessary to keep things going. The down side is, I’m an old, retired journalist and on a limited income. The latter makes it challenging to subscribe to every newsletter I would like to. To paraphrase the late Sen. Everett Dirksen (a Republican back in the day when Republicans were honorable, really!) $7 a month here, $7 a month there, and pretty soon, it adds up to real money. I want to support so many of these fine folks, like Sarah, but there are only so many $7 dollars to go around — and I feel like I’m cheating many of them because of that. It’s a dilemma, and I know this is off-topic, but I needed to post it somewhere. Meantime, thanks to ALL the resisters; please don’t hold it against me for subscribing to the “free” version. RESIST!

I'm in the same boat as you, Neal. I joined PoliticusUSA thinking I would be fully welcome on all the substacks posting here. I was surprised to see that isn't the case. There's no way I can join them all.

Every sign, street corner, chant, and car honk, are a gathering of democratic spirit, reminding all of us that We The People can and will do this.

My 70% red rural community has had 12 weeks of protests over interstate 81. We're only about 100 miles from Washington DC, but in some ways we're 150 years back.

We're the only district in the United States to have put Confederate generals names back on two of our public schools.

The truckers love us, and even the locals are very supportive as they pass by and honk. Our job is to keep the abnormality of this unconstitutional regime in their faces with the hope of changing votes this November in our state House elections.

Our useless Republican congressman Ben Cline refuses to meet with anybody unless it's a photo op that he can curate and control.

On April 10, we had a empty seat Townhall with 100 people in attendance. We started with a committed group of activists and we have grown every week.

“Now, this last presidential election. I'm still having trouble believing that Pennsylvania did not go for Harris.” She is 100% correct! Harris won Pennsylvania and the Presidential election. Unfortunately, Musk was allowed to use his Starlink satellites to hack the voting computers.

I don't think he or anyone in his regime cares that people are upset with him, his policies, his cruelty….even if he hurts his own supporters. He moved on after he won the election, he’s going to do what he wants regardless of what it does to people, environment, companies, and he’s gonna stay put forever. Everything he does indicates that.

Except that he cannot stay put forever, although he will try. We the People need to stop him when he does. He’s likely to follow the dictator’s handbook (Project 2025) and declare a fake national emergency, after which he’ll declare martial law. This is exactly what two dictator buddies of his, Orban (Hungary) and Erdoğan (Turkey), did to consolidate their power.

We the People must block his way. We can start by continuing to badger our sleepier elected officials, continuing to protest, continuing to win elections at the State and local levels, and by taking back the House and Senate in midterms. We are a nation of laws, and given time tyrants like this guy tend to do poorly.

Ben, I could not have said it better. America belongs to We the People and the People choose Democracy. Project 2025 is a treasonous document and We the People will remember.

I agree. I’m waiting for his declaration of martial law honestly. Whether he succeeds or not is up to us. Because he doesn’t care, we must, if we are to save our homeland.

Sadly, when the declaration comes it will be done via Truth Social posting at about 3 am.

I feel that it is important for these citizens to be heard, to be respected, and to be seen. As they suffer from the actions of this inept and oftentimes cruel administration, so do we all suffer. We are approaching the time in which we stand a chance to put true blockades in place and remove Speaker Johnson- aka The Great Enabler” from any position of power.

I used to work in Indiana PA and it was indeed a blue dot dot in a sea of red. I'm so proud of those lovely, somewhat beleaguered people standing up for democracy. When the local Pride org applied for a license, folks w guns showed up at the hearing to try to block it. They failed and Pride happened! (I was told that it is illegal to block permitted guns from a government building in PA, hence the guns.)

Did these people in rural communities not listen to Trump during the campaign. He is doing exactly what he told them he was going to do.

I would like to see them band together and share their proceeds. This piecemeal approach is a killer for people who support grassroots and local journalism. I love independent journalism, but whew!😅
