The impending Republican takeover of the House majority has been overshadowed by the collection of storm clouds known as Donald Trump.
Over the last few days, Trump has had dinner with a Holocaust-denying white nationalist, gotten smacked down by the Special Counsel investigating his theft of classified documents, and been sued for rape. While most politicians try to law low over the holidays, Donald Trump has been gleefully walking around with a gas can and matches setting everything around him ablaze.
It is much easier to watch Trump’s circus of destruction when he is doing it to the Republican Party, not from inside the Oval Office.
Since Democrats will keep control of the Senate, House Republicans have already given up on passing anything that will resemble meaningful legislation.
