It looks like Donald Trump made a huge mistake when he messed with the BBC. Trump did not like a documentary that the BBC aired on the 1/6 attack, so the president filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the British broadcaster.

The BBC has used the discovery process to request documents and information about Trump and his family’s financial dealings. Trump missed a court deadline, but the process is dragging on, and it is getting worse for the president by the day.

Trump watched CBS and ABC pay him off for bogus defamation lawsuits, and since he thought that he had cracked the code on shaking the media down for money while also exerting control over content and coverage, it is logical that Trump would try the same stunt with the BBC.

The problem is that Trump has no authority or ability to use his office to harm the BBC, so they are in a position to do what First Amendment lawyers advised ABC and CBS to do.

The BBC is fighting Trump in court.

The most recent batch of filings in the case took an ominous turn for Trump and suggested that he is on the cusp of the one thing that he has been trying to avoid for five years. Trump's role in the 1/6 attack could have its day in court.

Trump had his moment of intimidating some artists into silence, but increasingly the tide is shifting. Tom Morello announced his all-star voting rights festival in the Washington, DC area.

The current generation of artists may not be familiar with the 1960s and the impact that music, film, and art had on everything from the anti-war movement to civil rights, but they have heard of the 1990s, which was the second age of music festivals.

No 1990s festival was as groundbreaking as Lilith Fair, which was the brainchild of Sarah McLachlan. The festival ran from 1997-1999 initially, and began as a response to the sexism of the music industry, where it was thought that women couldn’t sell out stadiums. The festival also raised awareness of women’s issues and millions of dollars for charity.

Trump has shown signs of being subject to foreign influence since the beginning of his political career. Whether it is the allegations of Russia backing Trump in 2016, and Trump appearing more than willing to accept their help, or Trump being gifted a plane by Qatar that he is using as his personal Air Force One and is keeping when he leaves office, foreign influence has been all over the Trump administration.

Apparently, what is good for Trump is not good enough for the people who are supposed to be his allies and supporters.

The White House and Trump believe that MAGAs are being paid by foreign governments to influence Trump.

The cohort has long been subject to recruitment efforts and financial incentives, but in Trump’s second term the market for paid influence exploded.

Their influence is now for sale, as sources tell the Daily Mail that many will promote a message to their millions of followers or offer access to the president if a hefty check is promised.

It is fine for Trump and his family to allegedly sell their access and influence over government policy, but influencers aren’t allowed to get their piece of the corruption pie.

One of the common characteristics of Donald Trump’s two administrations is that the man doesn’t listen. The result is a pool that is now full of green algae, and Trump is claiming “vandals” are to blame.

The United States Park Police have arrested multiple individuals for vandalizing our Nations magnificent Reflecting Pool. Who would do such a thing? These are very serious crimes having to do with the destruction of National Monuments. Years in jail! Work will begin immediately on its repair.

One of those arrested was a three-time Olympic cyclist who touched a piece of the peeling paint. He won’t be facing years in jail because what he is accused of doing is a misdemeanor, but it is much easier for the octogenarian president to blame roving gangs of vandals armed with algae than to admit who is really to blame.

Meanwhile, Vance is very publicly trying to use rhetoric to appear strong, and as you’d expect with anyone associated with the man Vance once compared to America’s Hitler, this involves insults and rhetorical jabs.

So we had Trump’s VP attacking Israeli ministers who were urging Prime Minister Netanyahu to disregard the Iran accord, telling Israel, “You can’t just kill your way out of solving every problem.”

Can you just hear the cheering as Israel has become vastly unpopular in the United States?

News outlets ran with Vance scolding Israel. The team that let Netanyahu lead them into an illegal war are finally standing up to him!

But this could be yet another rhetorical sleight of hand.

By keeping the plebeian masses fed and entertained, Roman emperors maintained social control and minimized the risk of riots and uprisings, even as the government faltered. This concept became the political metaphor of panem et circenses (bread and circuses).

Donald Trump excels at very few things, but one of them is putting on a big show to misdirect. So while it’s true Trump’s MOU has enraged many leaders in Israel, it’s also true that Trump’s MOU is just that, a “memorandum of understanding”. The nuclear part of the deal has yet to even be agreed upon. It merely lays the groundwork for talks on Iran's nuclear weapons program.

The BBC noted, “US officials briefed that the deal "sets a minimum standard where… the enriched stockpile will be destroyed". But the MoU actually makes no mention of this happening.”

Knowing Donald Trump’s TACO track record, much of the MOU isn’t worth the paper it was written on.

Think of how Trump puts on battles with controlled opposition media members in order to make it look like someone is pushing back and he is taking hard questions - only for that person to still have access, unlike anyone who asks questions Trump actually won’t tolerate.

It’s a show. It deflects. It distracts. It feeds the media. It feeds the public.

It’s panem et circenses. Bread and circuses used by a government to distract and pacify a population by providing spectacles rather than addressing actual civic or structural issues.

How is Trump’s MOU going? As expected. It has revealed, once again, just how weak Donald Trump is.

The 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a failure, is chaos, is destruction, is ending up in a worse position than he started and then claiming victory after killing children for nothing.

In reality, Trump’s long-delayed seeming ‘No’ to Netanyahu is as real as any of Trump’s posturing, including that he getting the Strait of Hormuz opened without fees. In actuality, that is only guaranteed for a limited time period. And of course, the Strait was opened before Trump went to war with Iran because he fell for Netanyahu’s pressure.

Trump has dressed up his own failure in childish insults hurled at Netanyahu, as he often does. The rhetoric is designed to redirect blame by casting aspersions anywhere but upon himself.

And due to the way our press operates, it often works. So Trump got very helpful headlines for calling Netanyahu ‘fu**ing crazy’ and a good man who gets ‘too excited’. These headlines positioned him as in power over Netanyahu (rhetorically only) and thereby helped to distract the public from identifying Trump’s weak position, after even some MAGA diehards were accusing the US president of being Netanyahu’s puppet.

Now to further prove his “strength”, he has made a deal that angered Netanyahu and Israel.

The tarp covering the Kennedy Center is a cover-up from an administration that seems to specialize in them, but this time, it looks like he won’t get away with it.

The New York Times reported:

A federal judge who has temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s plan to close the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for renovations issued an order on Tuesday that gave officials three days to update him on its plan.

The Kennedy Center has pushed back on the judge’s ruling that suspended the administration’s plan to close the center for two years.

In the interim, Judge Christopher R. Cooper of Federal District Court in Washington asked for a status report from the Kennedy Center that would include plans for “public access and ongoing programming, activities and operations” should the center stay open past July 4, which the president proposed as a closing date.

The administration is arguing that the tarp and other roped off areas of the center must remain closed because “the building is in bad shape,” which is interesting because no previous administration has raised concerns about the building’s condition.

If the building is damaged, it is possibly because Trump damaged it.

Trump is not going to be able to throw a tarp over the Kennedy Center for the next two-plus years and pretend like the removal of his name never happened.

The Kennedy Center is a monument to President John F. Kennedy, who remains something that Trump will never be. Kennedy is a beloved presidential icon.

No court should allow Trump to deface the monument to JFK, and then cover up his disgrace with a tarp.

This time, it looks like Donald Trump isn’t going to get away with it.

Trump was trapped in a war that he started, but couldn’t win. The president got desperate, and the same president who has spent his entire life making bad deals and trying to sell them as victory made one of the worst deals in American history, except this time a significant amount of his party is not backing him up.

How bad is Trump’s Iran deal for America?

The president admitted that his agreement has no mechanisms to force Iran to comply and not develop a nuclear weapon.

When asked about compliance mechanisms at his G7 press conference, Trump said there doesn’t have to be any:

Doesn’t have to be. I let ‘em know. I said, “Look, if you don’t adhere to the agreement, I don’t wanna do that. But we’re gonna bomb the hell out of you.” And I don’t think that they’re gonna veer from the agreement. What else am I gonna do? Am I gonna say, “I’m gonna take you to court”? Let me take you to court. Let me just, let me sue you.

No, we’re gonna bomb the hell out of ‘em if they violate the agreement. I don’t want them to. I want them to honor the agreement. Again, uh, the Strait slows up. Bad things can happen. You know, in war, terrible things happen, like you mentioned the question before about a school gets hit. Other things get hit. Bad things happen in war. War is a nasty place. I see it, I see it, I see it better than maybe anybody has ever seen it.

The more Trump talks about the deal. The more Republican opposition grows.

Political parties in power tend to think they can maintain power by keeping the same voting coalition and gains that helped them win the previous election. When it comes to midterm elections, this is usually deeply flawed thinking, as electorates and elections are dynamic and change in each cycle.

Donald Trump thought that he could rig the midterm election by triggering a gerrymandering war where Republicans would redraw congressional districts based on the 2024 election results.

There were two groups of voters that Republicans thought they could keep with them to rig the midterm election.

According to Pew Research, Latino voters made a big move toward Trump and the Republican Party:

Nearly half of Hispanic voters backed Trump. His support among Hispanic voters was 12 points higher than in 2020 (48% in 2024, 36% in 2020). And the share voting for the Democratic candidate fell from 61% to 51%.

In 2024, Hispanic women and Hispanic men were divided in their preferences for president. In 2020, Hispanic women were more likely than Hispanic men to vote for the Democratic candidate.

Again, these changes were primarily driven by changing turnout patterns: 9% of eligible Hispanic voters voted in 2020 but not in 2024, and these voters favored Biden in 2020 by roughly two-to-one (69% to 31%). By contrast, among Hispanic eligible voters who voted in 2024 but not in 2020, 60% voted for Trump in 2024 and 37% voted for Harris.

Republicans in Texas and Florida redrew their maps with a perceived Latino voter shift in mind. Latino voters have shifted, but not in the way that Republicans thought.

Conservatives’ Free Speech Protect Children Lies

In other words, these folks don’t actually value free speech or protecting children. Those cited values are just a convenient bumper sticker jingo they use to cloak their efforts to restrict the public’s freedoms as they turn around in the same breath and ban books from libraries for daring to tell the story of someone who isn’t white, straight and Christian.

Because this movement — currently operating under the auspices of the Trump stamped “MAGA”, but largely rebranded from the Tea Party — thrives on ignorance, they have gone after libraries, both public and school, as well as librarians around the country.

Their goal is to police thought. They want generations of Americans so ignorant that they are easy to manipulate because they have never been exposed to different ideas.

Proving once again that the state level is where protections from federal overreach can be crafted, the Massachusetts House of Representatives “overwhelmingly” passed a bill (H. 5489) to legally protect school and public libraries, basically an anti-book ban bill.

“The majority-Democrat chamber voted 153-3 last week to approve the legislation sponsored by Rep. John Moran, D-9th Suffolk. The bill, among other things, protects school library professionals from retaliation for fighting book bans.”

The goal of this bill is to prevent politically motivated censorship and protect library professionals by setting statewide standards for book challenges and establishing guidelines for public and school libraries.

“Last year, Massachusetts was sixth in the nation in the number of book challenges, resulting in more than 200 titles being banned or censored,” Andrea Fiorillo, co-chair of the Massachusetts Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom and Social Responsibilities Committee told WGHB. She added that “8,000 unique titles were challenged nationwide, and 77% of those were censored, with 66% banned outright according to the American Library Association. Fiorello said she’s been alarmed at a similar trend in Massachusetts.”

It looks very likely to pass as a similar bill already passed the state Senate last year.

The reason why presidents have not gone to war with Iran for nearly 50 years was not complicated. It was well known inside the US intelligence community that if the United States and Iran went to war, Iran would use economic warfare, specifically the Strait of Hormuz, to level the playing field and inflict economic damage on the United States and the world.

Once the US engaged with Iran at the military level, there would be only one bite of the apple. The war had to be fought and won, or it would be lost, and to secure the support of the American people for such a war, it would have to be a just cause.

Michelle Obama is so far above all of these men — and that is their problem with her.

She makes them look like the small-minded, mean-spirited losers they are. It’s really that simple. She is on par with her husband, who is everything Donald Trump isn’t. Barack Obama is the family man, the beloved and aspirational president, the charismatic speaker who charmed entire countries and the president got an Iran deal that Trump destroyed out of pettiness and just last night proved he can never compete with.

Donald Trump is so jealous of a certain kind of man that he shoved his name above The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center, which a court promptly forced the Center to take down. Trump might say he moved on the Kennedy Center like a “b*tch, but I couldn't get there.”

Trump is so angry about his rape of the Kennedy Center being thwarted that the removal of the letters of his name was hid behind a tarp as Americans stood by to cheer. He knew he couldn’t afford to allow people to see how easily he was removed from something he tried to take.

Trump’s White House claims the UFC bouncy castle birthday event was paid for by private companies, but we would be fools to not suspect zero deviation from Trump’s ongoing, relentless personally enriching grift.

As Donald Trump keeps upping the ante on his corruption and ignoring the law, he is making it impossible for House Democrats, who might not want to spend their time impeaching Trump for a third time, to do so again.

The problem with a third Trump impeachment is that even though it would feel good for many Democrats to see Trump impeached, there is no evidence that impeachment would matter to the president or accomplish anything.

Unless Democrats have 67 votes in the Senate, or get dozens of Republicans to support convicting Trump in a Senate trial, there would be no consequences for impeaching this president for a third time.

Practical realities aside, there is a great demand from Democrats both in Congress and among Democratic voters for a third Trump impeachment.

Many House Democrats are interested in working on issues related to affordability, such as inflation and healthcare. Some House Democrats have no interest in pursuing a third impeachment of a term-limited president whom they won’t be able to convict and will be out of office in two years anyway.

House Democrats have a bit of a conflict among themselves on impeachment, which is what made his answer about a third impeachment interesting when he was asked about it on Meet The Press.

Stephen A. Smith has made himself a very rich man who only has one skill. Smith is very good at generating attention for himself. In this way, he is just like Donald Trump. Smith is a fixture on ESPN who gets paid to deliver his half-baked hot takes.

Smith is an endless irritant to many sports fans. I am not an ESPN viewer, so my personal exposure to Smith has been limited to a few clips, but cable news saw the kind of reactions that Smith generates in sports, so they have moved him into politics.

The ESPN personality has turned up on Fox News with regularity, and now, with CNN about to be owned by David Ellison, Smith turned up on CNN’s State Of The Union.

Smith was asked by guest host Kassie Hunt, “One thing that you had also said to the president is that he was sleeping. You said that he was sleeping at the game. And then I was watching what you had to say further after he posted on TRUTH Social about you, and you noted that he is 80 years old. Do you think that he is still sharp enough to hold the job that he has based on these events?”

Smith answered by claiming that the constantly sleeping Trump is more alert than Joe Biden was:

Well, I don't know anybody that would associate the word sharp with him, because he doesn't seem that sharp with some of the decisions that he makes sometimes, to be quite honest with you.

But I'm not here to denigrate or insult the president of the United States in that regard. He is certainly an upgrade from what we were seeing from Joe Biden in terms of his alertness and what have you. I certainly would say that. I would not accuse him of that. But I'm not going to insult the president.

The comparison to Biden is tiresome, because it is simply not true.

The effort to rewrite history to erase the prominence, struggles, and contributions of non-white Americans has been a central piece of the second Trump administration.

Donald Trump is not only trying to redefine the role of the federal government as only operating in service to the billionaire class and rewrite his own place in history, but the entire Trump administration is attempting to erase the history of those who are not white and male.

One of the most insidious attempts at erasing history has been happening in our national parks and monuments.

National parks and monuments are for all Americans to enjoy and learn from. They are a piece of our free public culture, but they have been under assault by the Trump administration.

U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley in Boston made an argument for the public good while ruling against the Trump administration.

Judge Kelley wrote:

It bears emphasizing that the public ultimately bears the brunt of Defendants’ actions. Everyday park visitors—young, old, and from all backgrounds—look to the National Park system to learn and enhance their understanding of history, science, and this Nation. Defendants’ continued censorship of interpretive materials disfavored by this Administration diminishes the public’s collective ability to engage critically and thoughtfully with these topics. Cf. City of Philadelphia, 820 F. Supp. 3d. at 343 (“[T]here is a public interest in the preservation and exhibition of . . . history.”).

By its terms, the Order erases the history of countless people; alienates communities from public spaces; limits the availability of scientific information relevant to ensuring the long-term preservation of the parks themselves; and impairs the mission of the NPS to preserve the parks “for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.”

The Executive Order, in fact, tarnishes the legacy of this great Nation by attempting to remove these items in time for, and in honor of, the 250th anniversary of our Nation’s creation. The gravamen of these public interests cannot be overstated. On the other side of the ledger, Defendants contend that, as a practical matter, the requested relief would impose administrative burdens on the Government.

The Trump administration argued that prohibiting the president from whitewashing history interfered with his ability to run the Executive Branch.

Defendants' 55 Motion for a Stay of Permanent Injunction Pending Appeal is hereby DENIED. "A stay pending appeal is an extraordinary remedy" and may only be granted if the traditional stay factors are satisfied. KalshiEX LLC v. CFTC, 119 F.4th 58, 63 (D.C. Cir. 2024) (cleaned up). Defendants have not carried their burden to establish that a stay of the Court's May 29, 2026 permanent injunction concerning the Kennedy Center's renaming is warranted pending an appeal of the underlying ruling to the D.C. Circuit.

Most notably, for the detailed reasons laid out in the Court's ruling, Defendants have not "made a strong showing that [they] are likely to succeed on the merits" of any appeal. Nken v. Holder, 556 U.S. 418, 426 (2009) (quoting Hilton v. Braunskill, 481 U.S. 770, 776 (1987)). Nor have Defendants demonstrated that they "will be irreparably injured absent a stay," id. “The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) charity says its analysts have discovered "criminal imagery" of girls aged between 11 and 13 which "appears to have been created" using Grok,” the BBC reported in January of this year.

Multiple governments, civil agencies, and local police departments are actively investigating how Grok's image generation features were manipulated to create and distribute illicit sexual content involving minors.

Things have been so unpleasant and unstable (aka, the TACO Doctrine) in the lead up to the events that hosts on “Trump 100” in DC for Sky News declared Donald Trump’s America is ruining the World Cup party.

While comparing the U.S. to Russia and Qatar, they asked if Trump’s America is ruining the world’s biggest sport event altogether.

“Players, coaches, referees, all struggling to get into the country and a mass shooting near the England team’s training base. This is America’s World Cup. Yeah, quite a buildup to the biggest show on earth,” Irish correspondent David Blevins said in the lead up to the event.

Imagine that! America’s unregulated gun fetish doesn’t look so good from the vantage point of other countries. They’re (rightfully) shook about a mass shooting that injured nine people, which occurred about four miles from where England’s team were set to train. If only our own lawmakers were as concerned about human life.

They then compared the World Cup in the U.S. to games held in Russia and Qatar.

“There is something of a stench I think around this World Cup. In the same way as we had in Russia in 2018 and in Qatar in 2022, controversy certainly both had issue around LGBTQ rights and you know in Russia there was the illegal annexation of Crimea a few years before the competition,” co-host James Matthews said. “In Qatar, there were the poor conditions for migrant workers. So that was then, this is now. But I think the controversy hovers around a few things, but at the center of it, one man, Donald Trump, and his politics.”

“Yes, it hasn’t exactly been the warmest of welcomes for teams and players who have been arriving in the United States,” David Blevins agreed.

Ironically and rather blindly, FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino claimed politics should stay out of sports, but then wore a MAGA cap, joined Trump’s so-called “Board of Peace” and handed Trump a meaningless, made-up “FIFA Peace Prize”.

Nothing says staying out of politics like whitewashing Trump’s violent aggression against human rights by giving him a peace prize as a risk mitigation strategy for the business benefit of your sporting organization.

This was all predictable.

Here’s an odd win for The People, which naturally involved Democrats working around Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, who is anti-labor, to pass a Democrat-led pro-labor bill to make it easier to join unions.

The House of Representatives passed The Faster Labor Contracts Act yesterday with a bipartisan 230-193 vote. The bill was introduced by Rep. Donald Norcross (D-NJ) and co-sponsored by Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME). This bill is meant to stop “corporations from using endless negotiating delays to block unions from obtaining their first contract.”

Democrats worked around the Republican conspiracy theorist who holds the gavel and is third in line to the presidency — because that is who the Republican Party is these days — by using a discharge petition and attracting a handful of Republican Representatives who were willing to turn their backs on their party of Very Big Business Only to help the little people.

All in all, 20 House Republicans crossed the party line to help pass pro-union bill the Faster Labor Contracts Act.

When Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) was asked about the Republican Speaker of the House’s whipping votes against The People, Fitzpatrick said, “It’s passing.”

And so it did.

Unions help workers, but they also tend to help everyone. Unions in America provide significant advantages to workers through collective bargaining, securing higher wages, comprehensive health benefits, and safer working conditions and they also drive broader societal benefits like narrower wage gaps and stronger labor standards.

Naturally, the generic Republican is repulsed by such notions. Why would we need a narrower wage gap when billionaire soon-to-be trillionaire Elon Musk is doing so well? Will no one think of how well this money saved by abusing workers trickles up to the billionaire class?
